Sleep Latency: Why can't you fall asleep?

We all know the feeling … lying awake, counting sheep, and wondering why we cannot fall asleep.

 

The truth is you will eventually fall asleep. It is just a matter of finding the right conditions. Everybody does sleep – even if at times it does not feel so – because it is physiologically impossible not to sleep for an extended time.

 

There are several reasons why you can be battling to sleep or fall asleep - also called sleep latency. None of these will shock you, but the details and nuance might change the way you feel about them.
